question you really want answered...
How
much can I / We make?
Honestly that
depends on a lot of things. We're not hedging here. It would be
easy for us to simply show a "best case" scenario and
"wow" you with big, possibly unattainable, numbers but
let's take a realistic look at how to figure your net income
potential. These figures are only estimates but are based
on the work of the many past producers.
As an example, let's
take a 22" x 28" 2-sided map (the most popular size
and type by far) and see what could happen.
You could sell all
100 ads that the map permits but, for arguments sake, lets say
you or your students sell 70 single ads at $250.00 each. You also
sell 5 double size ads at $450.00 each and 5 balloon style ads
for $600.00 each. That gives you a total gross income of approximately
$22750.00.
(Your community
will help determine the actual amount you charge your advertisers,
but we'll use $250.00 per ad for 10000 distributed maps for this
estimate. Many businesses pay more than that every month just
to be in the Yellow Pages. Ad prices on maps we've done for other
producers over the past 14 years have ranged from a low of $175.00
per ad to a high of $495.00 per single sized ad)
From that amount
of money you'll pay Maps4Fun $10850.00 to do all the art, design,
production, and printing work as well as provide full support
for you as you complete your map. That's for 10,000 maps, supporting
your school or fundraiser, to be distributed throughout your community!
Additionally, you'll
have some out of pocket expenses to cover such things as business
cards, xeroxing or printing sales forms, maybe a cell phone if
you don't have one, shipping the map back to us after proofing,
gas for your car, etc. of maybe $500.00. (This only a rough estimate
- you can easily spend a lot more - heck, you can open an office,
hire staff, buy a company car, but all that simply reduces your
profit.)
Note: A Fund-raiser can be run from your kitchen table or
school classroom to minimize your overall expenses dramatically.
You'll also have
the cost of shipping - we'll estimate $800.00 - *see below.
That's a total for
everything of $12150.00
$22,750.00 minus
$12,150.00 means a profit for you or your school of
OVER $10,000.00!
This is for approximately
8-10 weeks of sales work by you or your students. Professional
map producers in the past have sold ads from $295.00 to 795.00
each with larger sizes and balloons proportionally priced resulting
in gross sales in excess of $40,000.00.
There are additional
maps listed in the price guide that comes with your production
package including specialty maps, maps that fold to fit in display
racks, calendar, special event maps and more.
Your profit
could easily be more... or less depending on the price of the ads sold and how hard
you want to work. It's all up to you. There are additional ways
to increase your profit on each map/guide such as radio tie-ins,
cover ad sales or sponsorships. These are covered in the informational
guide that is part of your production process.
*The
only charge we cannot predict at this time is the cost of shipping
the maps to you since this varies so much. It depends on method,
carrier, time frame as well as the final destination. We do not
mark up shipping costs and we include normal boxing as part of
your base cost.

WILL NOT MAKE ANY GUARANTEE AS TO THE ULTIMATE SUCCESS OR PROFIT
OF ANY INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP.
WE BELIEVE ANYONE

Are
there any fees for more than one map or a repeat map the next
year.
Nope.
Please note there
is a substantial penalty fee for returning damaged, illegally
copied, or incomplete materials. Or not returning them at all.
You can also expect a visit from a couple of 350 pound men in
a Hawaiian shirts to collect this fee.

If, prior
to us starting work on your map, you decide map making is not
for you, simply return everything we've sent you and
YOU'LL
OWE NOTHING.

Artwork Printing Notice
We'd like to think
that "everything is included" when we list prices..
And if you do a regular map, based on the step-by-step production
guide, you'll never pay a cent more than the listed price (except
for variations in shipping costs).
HOWEVER, we learned
long ago that many of you are far more creative, have wonderful
new and unusual ideas, and often want to try different things.
So... if you want
to do something that requires a lot of extra time and effort -
we'll be glad to work with you but there probably will be additional
charges for special custom graphic and digital design that goes
beyond a "standard" cartoon map.
All pricing is covered
in the informational guide, or give us a call and we can talk
about it, share ideas, discuss costs and alternative. Either way
you'll know pretty much exactly what to expect what to expect.
Note that
we will NEVER charge you for extra or special work without getting
your permission first. Any decision to go "extra" will
be yours and yours alone and should be a cost you can pass on
to your advertisers. We'll cover this more in the production guide.
How
do I pay for my map?
Payments are very
simple. We use the industry standard of ½ down when you
send in your first group of your ads (after you've collected full
and/or partial payments from these advertisers) and tell us to
begin production. The production balance is due after your final
proof check of the map but prior to printing.
The shipping charges,
will be due PRIOR to shipping.
IF YOU ARE A SCHOOL
OR NON-PROFIT we recommend you set up a separate bank account
for this project and deposit and write all checks through it for
501(C)3 reporting purposes. Schools see below regarding an account
at the bookstore or principals office.
What
if my students just can't make a go of it?
For schools only,
we require you to set up an account at your bookstore, or with
your principal, school board or district financial office. All
payments made by advertisers will be deposited in that account
and held until a determination is made that your map will be a
success.
A project success
evaluation conference
will be made prior to your students beginning production that
will determine if the fund-raiser will be successful. At that
time a go/no-go decision will be made. We'll call and discuss
with you how things are going, make suggestions if necessary,
if necessary figure out other ways to make you map project an
even bigger success. (Remember, you have a toll free 800 answer
line available to you every school day.)
If together we
decide that the project will not be a success, you can return
all materials to us in good condition, return all money collected
to the advertisers and you'll owe us nothing.
We're
ex-teachers and want your project to be a success not an additional
financial burden. We'll work with you to help in any way we can
to make this the best fund-raiser in your school history.
